
How to Get to Mahahual?
Getting from Bacalar to Mahahual:
- Mahahual is a charming coastal village known for its calm beaches, the coral reef (part of Banco Chinchorro), and its laid-back atmosphere. There are two main ways to get there from Bacalar:

By Colectivo (Public Transport)
Colectivos or "combis" depart from the colectivo terminal in Bacalar. Companies like Combi Mahahual or Transportes Mahahual usually offer regular departures in the morning (between 7:00 AM and 12:00 PM). Cost: Approximately $80-$120 MXN per person. Return: Combis typically leave Mahahual between 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM (check schedules the same day). -
By Car
Recommended Route: Take the Federal Highway 307 (Bacalar to Chetumal) heading south. At km 45, turn right at the signposted exit to Mahahual (via Highway 293). Continue straight until you reach the village (the road is in good condition). -

Toll: There are no tolls on this route. Gas: Fill up your tank in Bacalar, as there are not many gas stations along the way. -

Alternative Transportation: If you can't find a colectivo, you can negotiate a private taxi from Bacalar (approximately $600-$900 MXN one-way). Recommendation: While in Mahahual, don't miss the malecón and be sure to book a snorkeling or diving tour at the reef.
